The most popular organized youth team sport today is basketball, with 10 million kids in the US - 4 million girls and 6 million boys - shooting hoops. In fact, 21 percent of 6- to 17-year-olds play basketball. Of those 10 million kids, how many come from broken homes? How many have never stepped foot into a church? How many have not heard of Jesus? How many would hear the Gospel if our churches would reach out to the kids by utilizing the sports they love to play. Above The Rim Ministries is meeting the kids of today with the sport they love to play: basketball... for Christ!

Alpha Camps *

Phase I

Above The Rim Ministries seeks to partner with local churches in urban areas and send teams of volunteers to reach the youth in underprivileged neighborhoods through the game of basketball. Our structured camps provide a loving atmosphere, while reinforcing our motto: "Set Your Mind On Things Above the Rim" with each child (Colossians 3:2). We do this by reaching out in the neighborhoods where these kids live and by spending quality time teaching fundamental basketball skills to boys and girls (ages 5 to 16), in addition to intentionally sharing the Gospel as the Holy Spirit leads. These camps are offered for free to both the local church and the camp participants. Each camp participant receives the following: a T-shirt, a water bottle, a bible, and a basketballÉAT NO COST. Phase II

We're interested in building long-term relationships with the youth we reach through basketball. Through after-school programs (i.e. mentoring/tutoring) for sports, fine arts, education, Bible study, and etc, we help the local church become missionaries in the midst of their own community. Please if your church is interested in taking expanding the focus of your basketball camp, "Above The Rim".

Omega Camps **

Similar to the Alpha Camps, these camps are identical in format but are offered at a low cost to the church and/or the camp participants, depending how the church chooses to finance the basketball camp. Based on the size of the camp(s), we may send a Camp Manager to help you administrate your camp. Other resources include software and a catalog of Above-The-Rim items, which can be provided to camp participants for participation, reaching certain goals and/or awards. *Alpha Camps are limited each year, depending on the number of participating churches, finances, and volunteers available. In 2007, we're currently planning to offer six to eight camps throughout the year.

** A portion of each Omega Camp will go towards funding an Alpha Camp. We encourage financially stable churches to support our Alpha Camps through monthly support or by hosting Omega Camps.
