New York, New York, the melting pot of the world, where there are over 180 different people groups within a 50 mile radius. As the Apostle Paul went into the "big" cities and Jesus commanded us to "disciple all nations", we believe that New York City provides a unique opportunity for Christians to share the gospel and reach the world for Christ. NYC Ministries, Inc. had its original beginnings in the summer of 1994, when a local church in Normal, Illinois, sent 25 college students to the parks of New York City to conduct a religious questionnaire giving them the opportunity to share their faith and the gospel of Jesus Christ. The trip was a success, not just for the kingdom but for those that attended. And thus began an annual mission trip to New York City. By the summer of 2000, trip attendance had grown to over 175 people. Through much prayer and counsel, four people with a desire to see Christians sharing the gospel incorporated NYC Ministries, Inc. on February 21, 2001. The organization is led by a Board of Directors and supported by the donations of God's people. The organization received federal tax-exemption (501(c)3) status in the summer of 2002.

The trips continue to grow. All in all over 500 people attended from 7 different states and 21 different churches at different times of the year (3 trips in March, 1 in July, 1 in September/October and 1 in December) in 2002. These faithful were able to conduct over 5,200 questionnaires in the parks, pray with over 1500 people per day at 8 different prayer stations, hand out over 35,000 tracts in 4 different languages, give the gospel presentation over 3,000 times, and see over 500 people come to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. As we saw the salvation of so many people in New York City we added a discipleship program to our ministry last year. The discipleship program is provided free of charge and offers 6 correspondence lessons via mail. As we continue to grow NYC Ministries desire is to further fulfill the Great Commission through church planting in New York City, with the first church to be established by the Fall of 2004.

NYC Ministries, Inc. is excited by what God is doing in the lives of those who receive Christ as well as those who attend this trip. We are continuing to expand and promote this ministry to local churches across the United States, many of whom have never attended a mission trip.
